JR Certus Construction is honored to undertake the construction of the Pickering Heritage and Community Centre, a visionary project initiated by the City of Pickering, Ontario. Spanning 50,400 sq. ft., this state-of-the-art facility combines the Museum, Library, and Community Centre spaces, embodying a celebration of Pickering’s rich heritage. Envisioned for completion in 2025, the center boasts a diverse array of amenities, including an exhibit gallery, multipurpose hall with a stage, and outdoor program spaces like an art garden, reflecting a commitment to fostering community engagement. The project aligns with the City’s Cultural Strategic Plan, integrating memory institutions into an environmentally conscious design that not only replaces aging infrastructure, such as the Greenwood Community Centre, but also positions Pickering as a pioneer in sustainability with its zero-carbon commitment.

Guided by principles of inclusivity and user engagement, the Pickering Heritage and Community Centre will not only serve as a modern Visitor’s Centre for the Pickering Museum Village but also offer a dynamic space for events, exhibitions, and educational programs. It addresses the pressing need to preserve local history, accommodating over 11,000 artifacts and archives with specialized storage facilities. Furthermore, the facility’s role as a public exhibit and art gallery promises to showcase both traveling exhibitions and local artistic talent, adding a cultural dimension to Pickering. With a focus on accessibility, sustainability, and community benefits, this project symbolizes the City’s dedication to creating a dynamic and inclusive space for residents and visitors alike. Some of the key design features of this

building include wood framed curtainwall glazing, polished concrete, exterior wood siding panels, glulam structural timber and wood deck, natural stone veneer, historic heritage restoration and building relocation components, well water treatment system.
